I knew the basic premise for this book, gravitated back to it because of my current interest in 19th c. The story takes place just as the University prepares for its first commencement. Obviously, I'm going on a Civil War theme here, as this novel takes place in the year after the end of the wretched rebellion in the United States. The special issue includes 12 scholarly essays, two early documents, and a short story by Matthew Pearl, picking up where The Dante Club left off. Last summer I read the well-reviewed The Dante Club, wrote my own reaction, more about me than the book. Reminiscent of Pearl's earlier work, The Dante Club, his latest novel also involves one of America's most prestigious universities, M.I.T.
